Hurungaterangi 1 - Poetry

Learning Intention: select specific content and descriptive language to create strong images of one experience.

Success Criteria:
  • Create a poem about your experiences in the school playground.
  • Select specific detail from the vocab brainstorm

Students were given a poem exemplar to refer to for structure.

Playground

I see children of all ages dart out of their classrooms, heading towards the playground.
Young students begin to toss a ball to each other, in innocent ball games.
I hear chatting and giggling at gossip and fun games.
The birdsong in the distance was almost drowned out by the sounds of park equipment, and the voices of other students.
I felt nervous at the thought of accidentally knocking into another student.
The feeling of nervousness was washed away, once I saw my friends racing over.
I run through the playground, waving my way through equipment, and other students.
I hear other people running through the Jungle of park equipment, as they call after their friends.
I hear the familiar ring of the bell call throughout the school, and the groans of disappointed children.
I felt disappointed as well.
Time flies too fast.

I see all of the students heading back to class at a sluggish pace, and eventually heading inside.

Playground

I hear fighting, crying and laughing from all the Children

I see the kids playing Netball, Skipping and running, as their

heavy feet touch the ground ‘’TTHHUUMMPPP”!!

We are playing Netball, as I get a  goal I hear Cheering, “YAH SHOT AALIYAH!!”

I smell the Cheese Crackers, the Cakes Smell are lingering throughout the school

I feel heartbroken as a tear drops out of my delicate blue eyes.

I feel lively as I play Netball with my friends.

I hear and see the bells ringing, doors banging, voices disappearing

During School
The days have gone as fast as a cheetah.

Seeing various kids playing with the ponderous ball.

Rangi's protracted legs thumping the ground after doing a handstand.

Jamie becomes as fierce as a tiger as she leaps to receive the ball.

The gust of wind steadily brushes trough my hand as I blow the whistle

Hearing Lauryn screech "Pass it to me!"

So she is able to gain the ball

Kayla's deathly look as she writes her fascinating and creative story.

Extreme playground

The playground was extremely noisy

I can see speedy kids run in a blink of an eye

I feel dirty bark beneath my feet

I hear monkey bars smashing together

kids deafening and buzzing everyone's ears

I can feel greese on the playground

Almost like oil on the bottom of the pan

Hands as slippery as an eel

But the playground is like a dream come true

Enormous and enjoyable.

By Jamie

School

I see feet smashing the ground
I see people sprinting
I hear people yelling busted
I hear the brick cracking
I can feel a hurricane blowing my hair
I feel the brick under my feet
I was playing busted with my friends
I was running and yelling busted
I can see the wind blowing the green grass

School playground

Kids looking at the clock (" tick tock, tick tock ") ("ring")

I see the desperate children slurping for fun.

The baby blue sky shining on a screeching lunch break.

With the soft silky glass waving beside me

The tree's stand tall and proud, leaves falling "autumn".

I reach the playground and started swing on the swing's like no
tomorrow.

Kids climbing trees like big huge gorillas reaching for the top.

And laps, floor is lava, busted , tag .

("ring , ring") never mind back to class "sigh"
